Dance with Death
A blessedly minor cinema genre concerns policewomen or female journalists who work “undercover” as strippers or prostitutes in order to gather information concerning either criminal or newsworthy activities, and with this sexploitative affair it is a journalist who assumes the double duty. Reporter Kelly Crosby (Barbara Alyn Woods) supposes that a clandestine vocation as a stripteaser will enhance her stalled newspaper career and she persuades her editor (Drew Snyder) to allow her secondary employment at the sleazy Bottoms Up Club in Los Angeles, following homicides of two strippers who worked there, as Kelly believes that she will possibly locate clues within the club if she doffs everything for her night job. Numerous characters scented of red herring are introduced amid many tiresome scenes depicting augmented flesh of indifferent quality, as the plucky newspaperwoman attempts, with assistance from vice sergeant Shaughnessy (Maxwell Caulfield) who has entered the pic as her lover, to determine the identity of the killer. Because homicides of ecdysiasts persist, and since nearly each personage with a speaking part is clumsily signified as a potential suspect, an element of suspense might be expected to appear, but this production fails to deliver on that score as a viewer in a semi-comatose state should yet have no difficulty in selecting the killer. The scenario, in particular its dialogue, is insultingly puerile, easily finding ways to include an overage of clichs within its framework, and the acting is largely unskillful, with the exception of Lisa Kudrow, near the beginning of her career in a small part as a press room worker and friend of Kelly. A positive element of this extraordinarily poor film is the output of its sound crew, but otherwise there is nothing to commend it, from its wretched direction and continuity through its total ignorance of even the most basic law enforcement procedures as evidenced by Caulfield’s (dismal) performance, to the excruciating and seemingly endless climactic scene, silly to the nth, almost as if those responsible are venturing to make it as incongruous as is possible.

REAL actors are those of us that from childhood grow up impersonating cartoon characters, characters in movies, people we know, doing voices, inventing characters, dressing up, dancing, singing, making up songs etc.Then there are the people such as in this movie. Kids that just decide hey, I would love to be rich and famous and I like TV and movies…I’ll be an actor! So then without any background, any practice and not even the experience of being a childhood performer around the house and friends, they give it a show. Then for some bizarre reason, a producer is incompetent enough to hire them.Look the story had potential, the budget was decent and the sets were fairly convincing, these kids just had no place working in front of the camera. It’s a movie you watch and think to yourself OK, they must have made this movie themselves or been friends of the film maker or just rich kids that know the right people. This movie shows you that the best way to throw your money in the garbage is to hire a bunch of posers that don’t know what the hell they’re doing.You might as well pull a random homeless person off the street, hand them the tools and supplies necessary then say “ok, build me a house!”.Avoid this at all costs unless you like hating people that can’t act and should have never been given the opportunity to prove it. Also, if you’re going to cast a film with pretty faces and big tits, they need to do something to earn their money which in this case should have been to get naked a half dozen times or more.Watching people this incompetent makes me hate Hollywood all the more because these faces are bound to show up on screen again and absolutely have no place there. It’s no different than the slacker at work that’s never on time, always finds people to pick up their slack, kises anal and gets the big promotion only to fall flat on their face yet get a dozen more chances to do it again.Ugh…..
